A long-established and respected professional practice, Stewart Gilmour & Co., was formed in Ayr in 1948, initially by sole-practitioner, Mr Stewart Gilmour and it has been a partnership since the late 1950s. The current partners are Ms Sheila Tannock, who trained with Stewart Gilmour & Co and was appointed a partner in 1988. She specialises in the farming sector. Ken Livingstone was recruited as a partner in 2005. He trained with Deloitte & Touche and was subsequently an associate with Sinclair Wood & Co. (now part of Henderson Loggie) in Glasgow. Mr Livingstone is a widely experienced general practitioner with specialist knowledge of the media and charity sectors. The firm has a wide range of clients varying from individuals requiring Income Tax Returns to multi-million-pound turnover companies. These range from farmers and agricultural dealers to retailers, construction, TV/film companies, estates, charities and service industries. The geographical spread of clients takes in predominantly Ayrshire and the Glasgow area, but ranges as far afield as Perthshire to the north, Fife to the east, Arran, Cumbria, Dumfries & Galloway as well as several London-based companies and individuals. Stewart Gilmour & Co. is affiliated to CCH Croner and is thus able to offer specialist advice on more complex tax issues. Other than the partners, there are currently 14 members of staff, 3 of whom are professionally qualified. The staff have particular strengths in the agricultural and media sectors and the firm enjoys an excellent reputation within the business community. It offers a full range of accountancy, audit, payroll, bookkeeping, taxation and financial services to high standards and its operations are monitored and regulated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
